Teen Vogue Fashion University: Saturday (part three)

I hope everyone was safe during Hurricane Sandy and I hope you all strayed away from the typical sexy turned slutty halloween costume. I am tired of seeing "sexy witch" and "sexy angel" costumes! Be creative, people! Like Jenna Marbles (YouTube star). Watch the video below to see halloween costumes done right.

Anyways, now lets talk about Teen Vogue Fashion University. I left off telling you about the tour of the amazing Teen Vogue offices. After the tour, I went to lunch in Bryant Park with a few of my new friends. We sat on the steps and ate before heading back to the seminars.

My next seminar was with Erin Fetherston (fashion designer). She looked like TinkerBell, but in a pink dress instead of green. She has a high end line and a diffusion line (a less expensive line from the same designer). Her designs are all very feminine-- I love them! Erin talked to us about her experience at design school in Paris and how she started her own clothing line. One thing she mentioned was that her designs allow the wearer to look sexy but in a tasteful way (you don't need a body con dress to be sexy). Oh, by the way, the fabulous Andrew Bevan was the "host" of this seminar, he asked Erin most of the questions.

After the Erin Fetherston seminar, I went to a class with the woman behind Topshop, Kate Phelan. I would just like to say that I was obsessed with her British accent. Kate talked to us about her life and how she got started into the fashion industry. She also talked about Topshop, what she's done for the retailer and what she will continue to do to help it grow. In this class, Kate was questioned by Amy Astley. I was lucky enough to be sitting front row! Unfortunately, I didn't take many pictures because I was too close.

At the end of this class I got Amy Astley's autograph (wow, I am such a fangirl/ child) and had the chance to chat with her and Kate for a bit. When we were done chatting, I sprinted over to my next seminar so I could get a good seat. Unfortunately, I got there too late and ended up sitting in the balcony. This was the seminar that I HAD to see. This was the seminar that I was looking forward to all day. This was the TEEN VOGUE EDITORS PANEL *insert child-like screams here*.

The panel consisted of Amy Astley (editor in chief), Gloria Baume (fashion director), Andrew Bevan (style features editor), Sheena Smith (accessories director), Jane Keltner de Valle (fashion news director, and my idol), and the new beauty director Elaine Welteroth (where did Eva Chen go?).

During this panel, we had the chance to ask them any questions we wanted. I took a lot of notes during the seminar. All the editors were amazing and gave such great advice!

This was the last seminar of the day. That night was the party at Topshop in SoHo. There was more live entertainment, more mocktails (virgin cocktails), and sweets. I didn't attend the event, I went to dinner with my parents instead. I barely saw them that weekend so I wanted to spend at least some time with them!

Well, that concludes the first official day of Teen Vogue Fashion University. I apologize for the posts coming out at random times. I promise, Sunday (day two) of TVFU, will only be told through one post!

Prayers to families seriously hurt by Sandy!

Lunch at Bryant Park!

Super close to Kate and Amy!

  1. Great post! It is awesome that you were that close to Amy Astley and got her autograph! I didn't go to Kate Phelan, but she sounds super cool.

  2. I was their in 2011, One of the highlights of the event was a glimpse into Teen Vogue’s fashion closet as editors took “students” on a behind-the-scenes tour of the magazine’s office.
    Sounds fun for u:)
